NOTICE OF RACE
1. Invitation
The Open Meeting will be held at Bosham Sailing Club, which is in the village of Bosham near Chichester in West Sussex. In addition to tea on each day which will be included in the entry there will be a dinner on the Saturday night at the club.
Dinghy spaces will be made available in the Dinghy Park which is past the church to the right of the club. Long term parking is not available outside the club or in the dinghy park so please put cars in the car park in the village.
2. Rules
2.1 The Organizing Authority is Bosham Sailing Club.
2.2 Racing will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, including modified rule 3(c) the prescriptions of the RYA, the Class Rules of those classes taking part, this Notice of Race (NOR) and the BSC Standing Sailing Instructions (SIs). The SIs and the BSC Buoy Chart/List are an integral part of this Notice of Race.
2.3 The RRS that are changed and/or amended together with the applicable SIs are as follows:
RRS Part 4 Preamble & RRS 40.1 (SI 3.2)/RRS 27.3 (SI 6.2)/RRS 35, A4 & A5(SI 16.1)/ RRS 63.1 (SI 18.2)
2.4 This Notice of Race may be amended by a Notice to Competitors from Bosham Sailing Club.
If there is any conflict with a Sailing Instruction, the Sailing Instruction shall prevail.
2.5 Advertising will be restricted to Category A.
3. Entries
The entry fee for the Open Meeting is £20. Tea is included for all competitors on each day and will be available when they come ashore after racing. There will be a two course dinner at the club on the Saturday night and this will be charged at £14 per person and guests of competitors are also welcome.
Entries must be made on the Bosham Sailing Club Entry Form. The Entry Form is available at Bosham Sailing Club or can be downloaded from the Club website to save you time on the day.
All helms and crews who are under 18 years of age during the event are required to submit Parent/Guardian Declarations signed by their parent or guardian with their Entry Form at the Event Registration.
Those competitors not possessing a permanent Chichester Harbour plaque will need to purchase a day permit at £3 (available at Registration).
4. Registration
Competitors should register at the Bosham Sailing Club from 09:00 on 25th September. No further signing on will be necessary on Saturday, but competitors are required to sign on prior to racing on Sunday.
5. Sailing Instructions and Briefing
Sailing Instructions can be downloaded from the Club website and will also be available at Registration. There will be a briefing for all competitors at 10:00 on Saturday 25th September.
6. Racing Programme, Courses and Racing Areas
Three races are planned for each day on a ‘back to back’ basis. The warning signal for the first race will not be before 10.55am.
The Race Committee reserves the right to alter this programme at their discretion to suit the weather conditions on the day.
Race starts will be from the Committee Boat unless otherwise advised. Competitors are advised to leave plenty of time to get from the Bosham slipway to the start area.
The courses to be sailed will be displayed on the Committee Boat. Course charts are available to download on the BSC website and will also be available at Registration.
All courses will be laid in the main Chichester Harbour area.
7. Time Limit
The time limit for each race will be 1hr 30mins.
Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat has finished will be scored ‘Did Not Finish’ without a hearing. This changes RRS rules 35, A4 and A5.
8. Scoring
The low point scoring system as prescribed by the RRS shall be used.
One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
Each boats score shall be the total of all her races, except that discards shall be applied as follows:
• When fewer than 3 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
• When 3 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
• When 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her 2 worst scores.
9. RYA Exoneration procedure
The Exoneration penalty and the Advisory hearing and RYA Arbitration procedures of the RYA Disputes procedures will be available.
10. Prizes
1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded for competitors. Other prizes may be awarded depending on the number of competitors.
11. Disclaimer of Liability and Conditions of Entry
The safety of a yacht participating in a race, training course or other event organised by the Club (an “Event”) and of her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/competitor participating who must ensure that the yacht and crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of the Event.
Neither the establishment of any sailing instructions nor any inspection of the yacht in any way limits or reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/competitor for his crew, his yacht and the management thereof.
The Club shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury however caused (other than death or personal injury arising from the negligence of the Club) to the owner/competitor, his or her crew nor any damage caused to other yachts whether participating or not, as a result of their taking part in an Event.
Every owner/competitor participating in an Event:
1) warrants the suitability of his yacht for the Event:
2) warrants that he or she has in place valid and current insurance against third party claims providing cover of at least £2,000,000 against any one claim or series of claims:
3) undertakes to indemnify the Club against any claim that may be brought against it arising out of his or her negligence or default whilst participating in an Event; and
4) accepts that the provision of patrol boats by the Club does not relieve him or her of his or her responsibilities.
12. Notices to competitors including changes or additions to this NOR
Notices to competitors will be posted on the notice board at Bosham Sailing Club Race.
13. Other information
Hot and cold refreshments will be available all day.
Tea (free of charge to competitors) will be provided at the Prize giving.
There are lavatory facilities available at the site, but no showers.
